SECWATCH and Rapid7 introduce a unique cybersecurity offering for organisations without multimillion-euro budgets

Awareness of the importance of cyber resilience is growing among Dutch organisations. The government is working on regulation, NIS2, to make cybersecurity a legal requirement for some organisations. These are positive developments, but they will increase the acute shortage of cybersecurity specialists. At a time when many organisations are cutting costs, this presents a challenge: are Dutch businesses making the best possible use of their cybersecurity budgets?

Specialist penetration testing company SECWATCH and Rapid7, a provider of Incident Detection and Response (IDR) services, are therefore developing an offering that includes scarce, specialist cybersecurity expertise as standard.

With this SuperSOC, which the parties are introducing on 31 October 2023, they combine scarce cybersecurity knowledge at a competitive price, giving Dutch businesses without multimillion-euro budgets the opportunity to develop strategically sound cybersecurity policies.

Getting more ROI from your cybersecurity budget

“We carry out a hundred penetration tests a year. Every week, we see examples of ransomware hitting companies that blindly trusted a tool often costing more than 150,000 euros. The problem is that many companies invest heavily in tools without having the knowledge to use them. The consequences are disastrous,” says Henk-Jan Angerman, co-founder of SECWATCH.

Both SECWATCH and Rapid7 recognise that tools alone are never the answer. Businesses could save considerable costs and worry by choosing leaner, more specific tools and supplementing them with specialist forensic knowledge. This generates much greater ROI from a cybersecurity budget.

Henk-Jan Angerman: “Many companies look, but do not see the right things. They lack the experience and knowledge to connect the alerts a tool generates. That creates a false sense of security.”

The fact that tools do not detect every threat plays a role. Rapid7 is built on first-hand hacker data. The manual support SECWATCH adds on top is key: “A critical alert is clear; you must act on it immediately. But medium or low alerts are not always harmless. Our team reviews all of them and calls customers: you need to act on this now,” says Marc Ligthart, SECWATCH's other founder.

SECWATCH's customers agree. Harry Immeker of Scala Software Solutions says: “We know the stories about arriving at the office on Monday morning and finding all the data gone. We cannot afford that. The combination of Rapid7 and SECWATCH gives us peace of mind and certainty: that we no longer miss critical alerts and are there immediately if something serious happens.”

With SuperSOC, based on Rapid7's platform, SECWATCH gives Dutch organisations the opportunity to establish powerful cybersecurity without multimillion-euro budgets.
